As No Stress Golfers we like to enjoy the game of golf rather than work at the game of golf. We believe golf should be approached and played on an individual level, each golfer with their own skill set, expectations, and tolerances. However, without rules and expected etiquette, golf would be as unruly as Bull Riding, Base Jumping, and Hockey.
To this end, the USGA has a set of rules to keep the game honorable. Rule 1 has three parts:
1.1 states the player should "Play the course as they find it." and "Play the ball as it lies." Of course, there are exceptions.
1.2 states the player is expected to play in the spirit of the game by acting with integrity and showing consideration to others. There should be no exceptions.
1.3 states the player is responsible for complying with the rules of golf. Golf is the only game where competitors call rules infractions on themselves.
Respect For The Course
- Repair divots and ball marks
- Rake and repair bunkers
- Know golf cart etiquette and boundaries
- Respect golf course maintenance personnel - even though they just mowed your ball in half!
Respect For Fellow Golfers
- Honor the tradition of allowing each player the opportunity to execute a golf shot to the best of their ability. "QUIET, PLEASE!"
- Avoid being a distraction to playing partners
From The 10 Commandments of Golf Etiquette by Bill Purdin:
7. When Another Player is addressing the ball.
There are only two things that every other player should be doing when a
player is addressing the ball: standing absolutely still and watching
the player hit. Movement is unacceptable. Talking is unacceptable.
Fussing with equipment is unacceptable. Looking around is unacceptable.
Stand still and watch the shot.
Maintaining Pace of Play- Be ready when it's your turn to play
- Keep searching for lost balls to 3 minutes
- Watch where your ball and fellow golfer's ball goes
- Play ready golf. However, never on the tee box, step in front of a birdie or an eagle!
- Keep Mulligans to a minimum
