You're Not As Bad At Golf As You Think

 Bogeys

A Golfer with a 5 Hcp will tend to score a bogey or worse 44% of the time (nearly half)

What does a 5 Hcp golfer's round look like?  Interestingly, 1.6 Double Bogies or worse per round.

5 Hcp round vs 14 Hcp round.  Mid handicapper has 5.3 Pars, 8.4 Bogies and 4.2 Double Bogies or worse per round.

Putting

Putting stats for a 12 Hcp golfer

A 12 Hcp golfer is more likely to 3 putt at 15 ft than hole out.

He also has about 3 three-putts per round and averages 34 putts per round.

Short Fairway Distances

A 5 Hcp golfer from 75 yards out gets up and down only 11% of the time, is more likely to make a Bogie or worse than a Birdie.

A 10 Hcp golfer from 90 yards out will get up and down only 6% of the time and 36% of the time will need 4 or more shots to hole out.

Greens in Regulation

Greens in regulation are missed quite a lot.  A 15 Hcp golfer will miss the green 50% of the time from 110 yards out.  A 10 Hcp golfer will miss the green 50% of the time from 129 yards out.

Even a Blind Pig Finds An Acorn Sometimes

A Challenge from General Steve Parker

It has come to my attention that some NSGers who have recently recorded a hole in one have a sense of superiority over those of us who only have closest to the pin awards.  They seem to feel that a hole in one is a testament to their superiority in the short game:  closest to pin winners are just blind pigs who happen to find an acorn.

I protest.  Not only is that attitude pejorative toward most golfers, but also toward blind pigs and pigs in general.  Who doesn’t like pigs?  Randy Sain’s favorite - Arnold Ziffle in "Green Acres"; Miss Piggy in the “Muppets"; Boss Hogg in "Dukes of Hazzard" (you didn’t want to be blind when Daisy Duke was featured!)  or Pig in the "Pearls before Swine" comic strip, or even Snowball, Napoleon and Squealer in George Orwell’s “Animal Farm”?

I propose a closest-to-the-pin challenge on Monday at Sky Mountain.  All par 3s will be closest to pin, played from the appropriate-age tees, with victors crowned at the 19th hole, where trophies will be awarded to the winners.

Steve

Game On:  It's the Four Aces (AKA "Blind Pigs") - Randy Sain, Rick Brown, Ric Opheikens, Mark Clouston versus the NSG field for closest to the pin.

Green Spring Autumn Kick-Off Scramble

Bruce Bundy, Jim Thalman, Jeff Zornow and mystery man representing Art Tice "no-show"

Congratulations with a low score of 9 under par at our Green Spring  Team Scramble on October 2nd.  The team spokesman said:  "We couldn't have done it without Art Tice being a 'no-show'."
